Santa Margherita Prosecco Superiore to Celebrate a Joyous Wedding

The weekend weather was absolutely perfect for an outdoor wedding!

The weather only added to the joy at the wedding of my good friend and colleague in the wine industry.  She and I have shared many wonderful wines together, so it only made sense that I would give her a darn special bottle for her wedding.

I spared no expense (are you reading this Louise?) and gave her the Veuve Cliquot Ponsardin Brut Rose’.  I also included several kitschy Champagne flutes, suitable for smashing in the fireplace, if anyone still does that.

Good Champagne and quirky flutes are, by the way, my signature wedding gift, so be sure to invite me if you’re hoping for a nice champagne…

Well, my finances were nearly depleted but I arrived back home craving some celebratory bubbles.  What’s a cash-strapped girl-needing-bubbles to do?

Prosecco, of course!

I opened the Santa Margherita Prosecco Superiore, made from Glera grapes grown in the famous Valdobbiadene Superiore DOCG region.  Prosecco is a sparkling wine produced in the Charmat method with the second fermentation taking place in stainless steel tanks.  Those from the Superiore DOCG region are generally fuller and richer than non-DOCG Proseccos.  Some Superiores spend time on the lees to impart more of a yeasty, nutty flavor.

The Santa Margherita Prosecco is a very delicate golden color.  The nose offers light aromas of fresh citrus and apple.  The palate is slightly creamy with persistent bubbles.  Fresh lemon and ripe peach flavors are rounded out by a hint of nuttiness.  It is focused and clean, dry and elegant.  Even given its elegant style, it paired well with our spicy huevos rancheros for brunch!

The Santa Margherita Prosecco Superiore was a joyful drink after the joy-filled wedding of my dear friends!
